“Autumn Leaves” was composed by Joseph Kosma in 1945 with original French lyrics by Jacques Prévert as “Les Feuilles mortes,” and later given English lyrics by Johnny Mercer in 1947. Early milestone recordings include Yves Montand’s French version in the mid 1940s and Nat King Cole’s 1955 English recording, followed by widely known interpretations by Cannonball Adderley, Miles Davis, and Eric Clapton, establishing it as a lasting jazz and popular standard.
